Intro
This project was an entry into the Game Maker’s Toolkit (GMTK) Game Jam 2020. Compared to 2019’s project, this game was much wider in scope. I worked as part of a team of five over the course of 48 hours to put together a tower-defence and top-down shooter hybrid game.
Summary of Development (2 day event)
The game was conceptualised as a tower-defence game where the enemies would leave remains that other enemies would have difficulty passing through. After a few hours of brainstorming, it was decided that the main character was to be a cat wielding a laser pistol with its tail. From there, development began with our 2 artists and 3 coders. I was one of the coders for the game.
Version History
v1.0 released for the jam was incomplete. After 1 month, v1.1 became available. Much later in 2023, v1.2 was released alongside the web-playable version.
My Responsibilities
- Create a basic project setup in Unity before the game jam started
- Code for tower purchasing and placement, other game mechanics
- Most UI design decisions and coding
- Proofreading of code, play-testing, final checks before submission
- v1.1: Refactoring code and refining the game after the jam
- v1.2: Improving gameplay and creating web-playable version
